In the Outlook, we look at the One Year Goals, Key Initiatives & Metrics again to get a feeling of how we are progressing, and to possibly modify them.

In the evaluation, the One Year Goals, Key Initiatives & Metrics have been reviewed as well, and maybe we learned that something needs to be changed.

@ Circle Lead, can you update us about what is discussed during the evaluation?

@ SubCircle Leads, can you bring forward anything from the sub-circle perspective?

🎯 Goals

One year goals

Where do you want to be at the end of the year?

Ref: Product Development
Product Development 2022 One Year Goals: focus, alignment and uniformity
Notes
1. The roadmap is clearly structured stating which product owner and team are responsible for solving a certain problem.
Feature wise (either functional or technical), if it’s not on the roadmap, it means we’re not working on it. Projects about improving how we do our work can/should be picked up outside of the roadmap.
2. We have a streamlined, open, transparent development process that adds value to our customers (adding value == deploying to prod) in short (short meaning days, not weeks or months) release cycles
3. We have a clear separation between development circles and guild circles
- development circle ⇒ building things and a focus on delivering business/customer value - guild circle ⇒ grouped around a speciality (eg. frontend, backend, UI/UX, QA, etc), with a focus on how to do our work and (self) development within that speciality There is a gray area and some overlap for certain circles. That’s fine, it’s not an exact science.
4. All new features are developed on Holodeck.
Emphasising the ALL part here. There will be grey areas and maintenance that still needs to be done on our existing code base, but holodeck should be the default for new things (even if it touches on existing functionality)
5. Our products are perceivable, operable and understandable for a wide range of people (a11y).
Needs to be embedded from the start. This won’t work if we only think about this after we start building stuff
<<Circle>> 2022 One Year Goals
Notes

One Year Goals should be defined SMART. Key Initiatives can be defined more loosely.

One Year Goals can be found by dreaming where you want to be / stand at the end of the year.

From the evaluation:

⚠️
Important take away during this session was: -

Are the One year goals SMART?

Do we need to update our one-year goals?

✈️ Key Initiatives

What Key Initiatives are required to reach our One Year Goals?

Stuff you started doing /should start doing to reach the year goals.

Old Key Initiatives
Product Development Key initiatives for 2022
Notes
0. We have delivered according to the roadmap
New
1. We make Holodeck production-ready, embraced by everyone, and the way we develop new features
2. We release (more) often and (more) comfortably, using an improved process.
3. We will integrate ESM (EcmaScript Modules) in the portal
Webapp and frontend could work better together to integrate this instead of doing it the old way do it the new way. @May 19, 2022 : initiative has been started and finished
4. We will make our softphones the most accessible of all softphones on the market
New Product Development Key initiatives for 2022
Notes
1. We are continuously becoming better at building solutions
Focus is on improving, not necessarily on feature building ⇒ (faster, sustainable) feature delivery is a side effect of getting better at building software
2. Circle leads have a clear vision and strategy on how to positively influence the lead time and deployment frequency metrics
Focus
3. Developers/specialists are in one development circle that has their main focus
Focus
4. We have created more uniformity in our way-of-working through the guild circles
Alignment, Uniformity
5. Guild circles have a clear (personal) development path in which everyone can see and understand what is asked of a junior/medior/core/expert with regards to that speciality
Uniformity
6. A11y is embedded in the way of working of our development circles (through UI/UX?)
Uniformity
old <<Circle>> Key Initiatives 2022
Notes

Key Initiatives are things you need to start or start doing related to the one year goals and are initiatives that circumspan multiple projects.

New <<Circle>> Key Initiatives 2022
New <<Circle>> Key Initiatives 2022
Notes

Are the Key initiatives in line with the Key initiatives of the super circle?

Super circle 3 Year Goals / Key Thrusts (ref.)
  1. A mediahouse with an internationally scalable cost effective marketing strategy
  2. A strong experienced (distributed) workforce where the right people have the right roles.
  3. A great integrated system for self development including feedback
  4. A scalable & maintainable service platform and method of building it
  5. A product that stands out as a relation product instead of a communication product.
  6. We are one organization under one commercial brand
GCC circle 1 Year Goals (ref.)
  1. We have a scalable international marketing strategy
  2. We come one
    1. There is a timeline to bundle or merge Voys / Spindle or parts thereof
  3. Tech, marketing and organization help us maximize business & customer value
    1. For product: simplify and move up (easy to sell product + supports bigger customers)
    2. For org: a solid standardized (simple) way to support our customers (0-touch sales, proactive support, tiered advice)
    3. A solid partner strategy where partner and product are well matched.

Takeovers are a viable option to facilitate growth!

Update

  • VoIPGRID taken out of the We Come One
  • 10x has been taken out of nr 3 of the one year goals

Notes
We developed a new feature set to attract new customers, including two features for 20-100 customer base (move up).
Holodeck is running its first services in production, all new features are developed on Holodeck.
We have a streamlined, open, transparent development process that adds value to our customers in short release cycles
Frontend and backend are further separated by following the roadmap
⚠️[Changed]
We are visible in the open-source communications community.
⚠️[REMOVED]

📊 Metrics

Metrics should help us to reach our higher goals, fulfil our purpose and maximise our critical number (end users)

In the Outlook we look at the metrics again to get a feeling of how we are progressing. In the evaluation, you have looked at the metrics as well and maybe learned that something needs to be changed.

Where do we want to be at the end of the year in terms of numbers?
